Six Word Stories

This is a neat little assignment I'm supposed to do, which instructs us to make six six-worded stories.

1. The grave stands outside time, alone.

2. The widow wears black, and weeps.

3. The flowers lay wilting, forgotten forever.

4. She silently whispers, "Goodbye my love."

5. A child born, a mother lost.

6. The dust collects, and never leaves.

Edit: I thought of some more.

Bonus:

Thousands of graves, all brand new.

Baby in a basket, left abandoned.

  1. So dark. Its pretty obvious that death is involved in most, if not all of these. I feel like the last on is the most open ended one.

  2. I liked the one that said, "A child born, a mother lost." It provided a story even with the lack of words.

  3. All really good. I especially liked #5. It allows the readers to imagine an entire backstory after reading just 6 simple words.

  4. "a child born, a mother lost." its a scary thing to think about, but it actually happens in the world and makes you think if that could ever happen in your life

  5. The last one interested me the most. My first thought was 'what a cliche!', but when I think about it--aren't there places where dust just collects? My room, for one. But after reading the other stories; I suddenly have a pretty vivid picture of an abandoned house. I'm pretty sure that if these were published separately, they would have very different meanings to readers.

  9. I especially like the evident abstract idea expressed in #1 messing with time, although all of them deal with time. I find it interesting that all of the stories deal with losses and what was, not so much what is or what is to be.
